 Timetable Advice

A small Maths department consists of six teachers AB, CD, EF, GH, IJ and KL. Each teacher should be allocated 20 periods of Maths out of the 30 period cycle. There are 5 year groups divided into half years (bands) called x and y. Each band requires a team of three teachers. The HoD has requested the staffing as shown in the table below. Each band will have 4 periods of Maths. Produce a combing chart to show the minimum number of periods that these teams could be scheduled, taking regard of the clashes of teachers within the department. It is possible to have two Maths teams simultaneously where staffing permits.

The head of Department has failed to fit his staff into the timetable cycle! Using the grid below can you make just a few changes and reduce the number of periods needed to 20?

In reality you should provide a chart with a column for each period of your timetable cycle.
